Overview

Healthy Hero is an interactive app designed to make nutrition education fun and engaging for children. Inspired by Talking Tom, it allows kids to feed a virtual pet the same foods they eat throughout the day, encouraging mindful eating and healthier choices. The pet teaches them about the benefits of nutritious foods and the downsides of junk food, reinforcing positive habits through play. The app also features leaderboards for friendly competition and a library of healthy recipes for families, building a supportive community around healthy living.

Feeding your companion

In this interactive screen, children feed their virtual companion the same food they eat similar to Talking Tom. Each meal triggers playful feedback where the pet explains the food’s nutrients and health value, helping kids recall classroom lessons on nutrition and healthy eating habits in a fun, memorable way.

Introducing

Healthy Hero

In a world where kids are surrounded by fast food and flashy distractions, Healthy Hero brings learning back to the table literally. This app turns nutrition into play, helping children care for a virtual pet that mirrors their own eating habits. Every meal becomes a lesson, every choice a chance to grow stronger making wellness something kids can feel proud of.

Defining the Problem

Why existing health education fails to engage children?

When we began this project, it became clear that traditional nutrition programs for children felt boring, instructional, and disconnected from their daily lives. Despite schools promoting healthy eating, the approach often lacked emotional connection and real life reinforcement. We needed to create an experience that kids would not only understand but genuinely enjoy engaging with.

To uncover the gaps, we observed children’s eating patterns, spoke with teachers and parents, and analyzed how digital interactions influence their habits.

Here’s what I found:

Client POV

Manual Data Entry
Teachers face delays and data loss when transferring from paper to digital forms, making the process time consuming and inefficient.

Accuracy
Children often make errors while filling forms, reducing data reliability and insight accuracy.

Users POV

Engagement
Paper forms are repetitive and unengaging, causing boredom and low participation among students.

Readability
Complex terms and small fonts make forms hard to understand, leading to disinterest.
