Overview

In academic spaces, access to knowledge should be effortless and inspiring.

Traditional library systems at design schools often involve tedious manual processes, unclear book availability, and administrative delays creating friction in a space meant for exploration and learning.

This case study explores how we designed TDV Library App, a digital platform that reimagines the library experience for design students streamlining borrowing and returns, providing real time availability, and fostering a seamless connection between curiosity and creation.

Defining the Problem

Why existing library systems frustrate design students?

When we began, it was clear that TDV’s library system felt outdated and disconnected from the school’s creative, fast paced environment. We observed daily interactions, spoke with students, and mapped their borrowing and returning journeys to uncover key pain points.

Here’s what we found:

Manual Process
Borrowing and returning books required physical entries and administrative approvals, leading to unnecessary delays.

Unclear Book Availability
Students often didn’t know whether a book was available or already issued resulting in wasted time and confusion.

Lack of Digital Integration
There was no centralized system or real time access to the library’s catalog, making it difficult to explore or plan ahead.

Objective and Goal

Reimagine Access to Knowledge

Design a digital platform that simplifies how students borrow, return, and discover books, making the library experience efficient, transparent, and enjoyable.

Student Goal

Enable students to instantly check availability, borrow books, and manage their library activity with ease.

Admin Goal

Provide admins with a smart dashboard to track inventory and automate manual processes.

Institution Goal

The Design Village aims to modernize its knowledge ecosystem, fostering a culture of curiosity and efficiency through a system that reflects the school’s design driven ethos and forward thinking approach.
